Get Goated Story: Don't be that Priest!
Every time my mom comes to visit, I take her to church because she’s a woman of faith and a fierce believer (yeah, I got it from her). And since I’ve had the blessing of having her around for the past few months, I’ve been attending church regularly.
But lately, it’s felt more like a chore, and not because it’s church or because I’m taking her. It’s because of the priest.
When my mom found out that the new priest at the church I took her to was also from Venezuela, she instantly liked him. But once we started attending Mass, that feeling turned into disappointment.
This priest gets visibly frustrated whenever people put down the kneelers, because they make a “tack” sound. He’ll even stop the Mass to scold people, with attitude and anger in his tone, voice, and body language.
And honestly, it made me dislike him. I’ve seen how my mom’s local church back home struggles even to have the basics to hold Mass. But this priest? He has everything: a beautiful church, ornate robes, all the amenities, and still lets something as small as a sound ruin the entire energy of the service.
He might wear the robes of a priest, but he needs some enlightenment, because instead of focusing on gratitude for being as blessed as he is, he’s letting little things steal his joy.
